charity: water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Since 2006, we've funded more than 17,673 water projects in 24 developing countries. When complete, these projects will provide clean, safe drinking water for more than 5.6 million people.
Nearly 663 million people don’t have access to clean drinking water, that's one in nine of us. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
The good news: there are simple solutions, from deep drilled wells to water filtration systems. And with the help of 400,000+ donors and individual fundraisers, we're forming a strong force against the water crisis. Join us.
As Director of Development (internally known as Director of Key Relationships), you'll work in close collaboration with the VP of Key Relationships to develop charity: water's annual major donor revenue strategy and targets. You'll manage an exceptional team to exceed annual revenue targets by analyzing current donor trends, developing strategic solutions for market development, and executing improved fundraising initiatives.
Your passion and optimism for ending the water crisis drives your desire to guide your team to meet ambitious new donor acquisition and revenue growth objectives. You will oversee ongoing fundraising efforts from major donors, improved systems and working cross-functionally with other departments, while managing a team that is executing against a multi-million dollar goal.
You will build a generous community of major donors by inviting them to help charity: water reach its revenue objectives, offering radical transparency, our 100% model and a brand built on hope.

As the Director of the Key Relationships team, you'll report to the VP of Key Relationships and work closely with members of the team to drive and deliver annual team goals. - You'll oversee the overall Key Relationships strategy for retention, renewal, and repeatable growth for all major donors giving to water ($12MM) and to operations ($10MM).
- As a member of the Growth Leadership Team, you'll liaise between the Key Relationships team, Water Programs, Marketing and Creative Teams to ensure proper alignment on all fronts.
- You'll oversee staff who research, prospect, and assess potential donors, and delegate relevant work to the front-line fundraising team.
- You'll identify staffing needs for ongoing development and growth and work with the VPKR to build a high capacity team.
- You'll train and mentor development staff and communicate fundraising goals and progress throughout the entire organization.
- You'll strategize ways to cultivate existing relationships that encourage individuals to participate at new and increased levels, to involve their networks, and to optimize their lifetime value as investors.
- You'll come up with innovative ways to not only effectively communicate the value proposition charity: water offers to donors, but also ways to show them the return on their investment.
- You'll build a personal book of business to raise funds for clean water projects, meeting with key clients and assisting Key Relationships Officers to maintain relationships and negotiate closes.
- You'll track revenue and team metrics and report data to leadership on a regular basis.
- You'll ensure correct usage of CRM and other revenue related applications.
- You'll train and ensure adherence to the fundraising/sales process.
